I'm not sure whether updates like this do anything for your peace of mind, but I told Bill I'd tell you anything new I found out.
Ginny was seen yesterday in Buckingham: alive, terrified, and in the company of Antonin Dolohov, who has apparently made himself a source of comfort to her.
Sally-Anne wrote to him later, and he told her, 'Miss Weasley is currently enjoying a bath, a meal, and the opportunity for a good night's rest, in fact. I'm certain you'll understand that we cannot allow her to write to you, but she has suffered no lasting harm.' He later added, 'I've asked Miss Weasley if there's anything she'd like to pass along to you to assure you that she is alive and well; she said to tell you that while accommodations are not ideal, they are better than the floor of the Great Hall, whether in her own body or her brother's.'
Sally-Anne thought the message probably really did come from Ginny. I concur.
So: as of last night she was alive, experiencing some sort of respite, and in the care of one of my favourite people (Molly, please don't take it into your head to write to him; he'd only delight in taunting you and I doubt he'd tell you any more than he's already told Sally-Anne.)

Date: 2015-07-11 05:06 pm (UTC)I won't write to him. Trust me. I'm not going to do ANYTHING to give Antonin Sodding Dolohov an opportunity to fit in any kind of wedge.

Date: 2015-07-11 05:11 pm (UTC)But she's alive. That's a plus over what we were fearing yesterday.
(Why can't that psychotic menace Crouch just off that slimy git? He apparently enjoys offing everybody else.)

Date: 2015-07-11 05:43 pm (UTC)Dolohov asked me if I've ever thought about WHY he and the rest of them followed Voldemort, or if I think they're all monsters under the bed. I don't think Dolohov's a monster under the bed EXACTLY but Crouch more or less is.
Private message to Sally-Anne
Date: 2015-07-11 05:45 pm (UTC)When I see a boggart, it turns into Antonin Dolohov. (After a fashion. Others probably wouldn't recognise him, as it's not so much Dolohov now as the Dolohov I remember from my childhood.)
So he literally IS a monster under the bed. In a sense. He's the one under my bed, if not the one under yours.

Date: 2015-07-11 05:47 pm (UTC)I know there are a lot of people who see the boggart as Bellatrix. Or ... you know, the results of Bellatrix.
Re: Private message to Sally-Anne
Date: 2015-07-11 05:51 pm (UTC)He killed Fabian and Gideon Prewett, Molly's brothers.
If he's not the one torturing Ginny, that's by design to invoke her trust, to make it easier to manipulate her, not because he's actually protecting her from anything.

Date: 2015-07-11 05:25 pm (UTC)If we ever manage to get to the point of attempting rescue, we'll have to be prepared for the possibility that she'll resist coming with us.
Re: Private message to Rachel
Date: 2015-07-11 05:34 pm (UTC)I've been thinking about everything I can remember about my lectures on interrogation techniques, when I was an Auror. I think she's being brainwashed, Bill. Not just intimidated. You can coerce most people, even Gryffindors, into saying whatever you want them to say, by cruciating them if they refuse. Give it enough time, and you'd publicly swear eternal loyalty to Salazar's pet basilisk, if that's what the person with the wand were demanding.
Actually feeling loyalty to the basilisk is different. But if they're reading your mind, and you have to feel that loyalty to make the cruciatus stop...
And that's really what they'll expect would kill us, you know? Ginny not just saying what they want, but really believing we're her enemy.
Re: Private message to Rachel
Date: 2015-07-11 06:39 pm (UTC)All right. If that's what it's going to be, then we just damn won't let it break our hearts. If Bellatrix turns Ginny into our enemy, then we'll just keep going until we can hopefully capture her and then do whatever it takes to break the brainwashing and make her ours again, dammit. We'll talk her ear off until she sees the light again. We Weasleys can outtalk anybody.
And don't tell me it's not going to happen. Let me have my fantasy.
